Silent Hill is one of my most loved games of all time. The music, the storyline, the characters, the gameplay and its creepy feeling is just an amazing experience. The indepth storylines really build up the characters and the drastic transition between New and Old [or Alternate] Silent Hill will send you from creepy to hellish.
The Silent Hill Movie was very faithful to the plot of Silent hill (1999) and featured music from all four Silent Hill games. This was very effective in pleasing the fans, as I being a fan loved to hear the music from the Silent Hill games I have played years back. The music was put at the right times, although often not similar to games it worked well. As Christopher Gans states, and i too noticed, he adpoted some of the camera angles used in the game. So when Rose is running down the back alley in the darkness (When Harry was having a "dream" in the game) the camera angles were almost the same, tilting sideways slightly and following her as she ran, like the game.
The little things they added in impressed me, like in alley, again, when Rose comes across the body on the stretcher - as in the game. She thens runs into a load of fencing only to be confronted by a group of "Gray Children" [Gray Child] - As in the game. The car crash at the beggining - almost identical to game. These similarities impressed me alot. Seeing them on the big screen in "real life" was an amazing experience, however some might say "Whats the point in watching it when you've completed the game? You know the ending." Actually, no. It has been adapted so that things are slightly different to keep you guessing. Alessa never came and killed the cult members in game, infact the only ones you came across where Kaufmann, and maybe a few others, but no where as many as in Silent Hill (2006).
The only downsides were, to me, that there wasnt enough "Alternate" Silent Hill. When the Siren went off, i knew what was going to happen, but it was a shame it didnt go off many more than two, or three times. Also, Pyramid Head only appeared twice, I think. I know by Silent Hill logic that he shouldnt even be present as he was a physical interpretation of James' feelings, but...well... can anyone deny how much a good guy our Pyramid Head is? The costume and graphics on him were brilliant and im sure his Skin-ripping scene will become famous in the horror-movie industry. As a closing comment id like to say that if you're a fanatic about the games like I am, you're going to love this film as much as i do. However, I apperciate that people who have never seen Silent Hill will find it a little weird when we start gasping because "thats from the game omg!" when its only a corridor. I give this movie 9/10, only because it needed more Alternate Silent Hill and more Pyramid head!
Wether you're a fan or not i urge you to see this film anyway, its good as a horror movie, amazing as a game adaptation.
